🇮🇹 MASS PROTESTS SWEEP ITALY — TENS OF THOUSANDS TAKE TO THE STREETS AS POLICE CLASH WITH DEMONSTRATORS!
Tens of thousands of students and workers marched across Italy on October 30, demanding higher wages, better public services, and relief from rising living costs. A 24-hour general strike organized by the grassroots USB union brought demonstrations to more than 40 cities, including Rome, Milan, Naples, and Turin.
Protesters also opposed rising military spending and ongoing wars in the Middle East. In Genoa, approximately 15,000 dockworkers, students, and activists entered the port, demanding an end to the use of ports for weapons shipments.
Most demonstrations remained peaceful, but clashes broke out in several cities. In Turin, police used water cannons against protesters near a government building. In Rome, demonstrations passed the Colosseum, while police dispersed another group attempting to approach parliament. Eight people were reportedly detained.
The protests reflect growing frustration over household expenses, public services, and defense priorities under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government.
The nationwide mobilization is part of a broader wave of European demonstrations, raising questions about how governments will respond to public demands for economic relief and changes in military spending.
