🇮🇱 ISRAEL’S MILITARY DRAFT SPARKS ANGER — HAREDI PROTESTERS CALL POLICE “NAZIS” AND “TERRORISTS”!
Dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jewish protesters blocked roads outside the Israeli military’s Tel Hashomer recruitment center on November 1, as approximately 230 Haredi men were expected to report for military service.
According to Israeli police, some demonstrators attempted to intimidate incoming recruits and shouted “Nazis” and “terrorists” at officers. Police deployed additional personnel and used crowd-control measures to clear blocked roads. No arrests or injuries were reported.
The protests reflect a longstanding dispute over military service exemptions for ultra-Orthodox Jewish religious students. In 2024, Israel’s Supreme Court ruled that there was no legal basis for continuing blanket exemptions for yeshiva students.
The Israeli military says it urgently needs additional personnel after years of fighting on multiple fronts. Many reservists have served extended periods, intensifying public debate over whether military obligations should apply equally.
While some Haredi men have begun joining the military, others strongly oppose enlistment, arguing that army service threatens their religious way of life. The dispute remains a major political and social challenge in Israel.
